iMedia Kentucky TV: Targeting Genetic Sources of Mental Illness

Speaking at the recent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Mark Brennan talks very briefly about his work at SureGene targeting the genetic markers of mental illness. While many people in attendance raised their hands when he asked during his session if they knew someone with cancer, many more raised their hands when asked if they knew someone who had been diagnosed with a mental illness.

Kentucky BioAlliance: Biotech thriving in Commonwealth

Kentucky BioAlliance held its annual event yesterday in Lexington, KY, featured Joel Ivers from the Drug Enhancement Company of America (DECA), located in Union, KY. DECA is a privately held pharmaceutical development organization dedicated to the creation of innovative healthcare technologies and products. The Kentucky BioAlliance is a gateway for increased collaboration and knowledge exchange among bioscience industry leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and institutions across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Following Ivers' presentation, Ben Keeton, the Executive Director of the Kentucky BioAlliance described the alliance in an audio clip that has been added to the right side of iMedia Kentucky under "radio."

Louisville's Hot Dozen

There were over 100 people at a reception at Preston Pointe in Louisville on Tuesday night to honor the  twelve companies that made the 2008 Hot Dozen list. The twelve companies listed below were selected by Greater Louisville Inc.'s Enterprise Corporation because of their rapid growth and tremendous potential. The event helps support local entrepreneurs and increase the quantity of fast-growing companies headquartered in the region.

Mark Crane, SVP of GLI, opened the event and introduced Mayor Jerry Abramson. Mayor Abramson spoke for five minutes and then each company gave a one-minute description of their company. The twelve companies are listed below:
